The United Egg Producers Certified Commitment

The UEP Certified program is committed to:

  • Following responsible, science-based guidelines in the care of egg-laying hens
  • Allowing enough space so hens can move comfortably within their cages
  • Assuring continuous access to clean drinking water
  • Providing enough space for all birds to eat nutritious food at the same time
  • Maintaining a steady flow of fresh air throughout the cages
  • Protecting hens from disease, injury and harming each other
  • Handling and transporting hens in a safe and protective manner
  • Undergoing annual audits by independent, third-party authorities to confirm 100 percent compliance
  • Continually improving our standards through scientific research by animal welfare experts

We are not alone in our commitment to providing our hens with the highest level of animal care and our customers with the safest, best quality eggs in the world. Many of the stores you shop at are also committed to the United Egg Producers Certified program.

When you see the United Egg Producers Certified logo on the outside of your egg carton, you can be assured the hens that produced these eggs were treated humanely and provided with sufficient space, nutritious feed, clean water, proper lighting and fresh air.

U.S. egg farmers care about treating their hens properly and protecting them from disease and injury. UEP Certified farmers must implement the guidelines on 100% of their egg production farms and are audited for 100% compliance either by the USDA or the independent testing firm Validus. The UEP Certified guidelines are the strictest in the industry and the program has made great strides in raising the standards of care for egg-laying hens in the U.S.
